Learn more about how we govern ourselves!
Blue Sky organization and Board operates using a dynamic governance structure called Sociocracy. Sociocracy is a system of principles and strategies for guiding the work of a group of people with a common aim. We use three simple structures to bring transparency, accountability and foster a collaborative work culture.

  1. Circle & Circle Processes - A circle is a semi-autonomous group working toward a common aim. A circle makes its own policy decisions, maintains its own memory system, and develops continually in relation to the aim. Higher circles create lower circles and their aims. Each circle has both circle (policy) meetings, and operations (steering) meetings.

  2. Double Linking - How intelligence flows through the entire organization, from top to bottom and across all circles. An operations leader is elected via consent from a higher circle to organize a lower circle. A representative is elected via consent from a lower circle to sit on a higher circle. Double linking ensures accountability, transparency and rapid information sharing across the organization.

  3. Consent Decision Making - Consent is a form of decision making in which we seek a strategy with which everyone can live, meaning that it allows the group to accomplish its aim. Consent is given when there is no reasoned (logically argued) and paramount objection based on the belief that the circle would not be able to achieve the common aim. Consent should be viewed as good enough for now. Decisions are revisited and adjusted from time to time.
